Pirates of the Caribbean

Steer a course for the Golden Age of Piracy on a swashbuckling voyage through seas plagued by scoundrels.

A Pirate’s Life for You

Strike yer colors, mateys! Your journey begins in a shadowy bayou, where fireflies flicker and banjo music drifts through the mist. Board your weathered barge and set sail into the unknown—plunging down a waterfall into the ghostly depths of the Pirates Grotto.
“Dead men tell no tales…” echo the voices of long-lost sailors as you drift past skeletons guarding their cursed treasure.

Soon, cannon fire erupts as a seaside fortress trades blasts with a mighty galleon. Glide into a burning port town alive with mischief—brazen buccaneers revel in their plunder, while others drunkenly serenade with the timeless tune, “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me).”

Keep a keen eye out for Captain Jack Sparrow, the clever rogue from the Pirates of the Caribbean films, who’s always scheming to claim the treasure for himself. From the misty caverns to the blazing inferno of the final scenes, every turn of this legendary voyage brings new surprises and unforgettable sights.

If ye be seekin’ adventure, avast—ye’ve found the proper place!

Over 50 Years of Pirate Lore

When Walt Disney first conceived Pirates of the Caribbean in the 1950s, he envisioned it as a walk-through wax museum. But after the success of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, Disney and his Imagineers turned instead to a bold new technology—Audio-Animatronics—to bring their tale of high-seas adventure to life.

When the attraction opened on March 18, 1967, guests were astonished by its scale, detail, and lifelike animation. With over 120 Audio-Animatronic figures, elaborate sets, and immersive storytelling, Pirates of the Caribbean set a new standard for theme park experiences—and inspired an entire film franchise that continues to capture imaginations worldwide.

More than five decades later, this Disneyland original remains a swashbuckling masterpiece—proof that adventure, treasure, and a bit of mischief never go out of style.
