Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island
Brave an adventure all your own at this secret island hideaway inspired by the stories of Mark Twain—and the call of pirate treasure!
Roam and Ramble Along the Riverbank
Set sail across the Rivers of America aboard a rustic log raft and discover a world of mystery and mischief tucked away from the mainland. Once ashore, wander winding trails beneath the canopy of sycamores and oaks, where every path leads to a new adventure.
Cross the creaky suspension bridges of Smuggler’s Cove, explore the eerie caverns of Dead Man’s Grotto, and climb through the timeworn fort built by early settlers of the frontier. Along the way, you may even stumble upon clues to the long-lost pirate treasure rumored to be hidden deep within the island!
A Living Piece of Disney History
When you’re ready to return to the bustle of New Orleans Square, make your way back to the dock for a raft ride home across the shimmering waters.
This one-of-a-kind island holds a special place in Disney history—it’s the only attraction personally designed by Walt Disney himself. Walt, inspired by the adventures of Mark Twain, wanted to bring the spirit of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn to life. Just before construction began, he took the blueprints home and redrew them, adding the coves, inlets, and pathways that make the island so magical today.
In 2007, the island was reimagined as Pirate’s Lair, with new discoveries, hidden surprises, and swashbuckling secrets woven throughout—while keeping the timeless spirit of exploration that Walt dreamed of.
